Turn The Page Books and Music Store
Rex Frederick - Turn The Page Books and Music Store - 2026 May.
On the corner of Washington and North Jefferson Street, in downtown Huntington, Indiana, there is a place where music lingers in the sidewalks, beaconing habitués to step into an envelope of savory nostalgia. With its rustic, low light atmosphere and the perfect blend of used books and wood floors, it hits all the senses, allowing one to become lost in a world of no time. While the shelves are always stocked with books that even the local book clubs come to pull from, there is another attraction that entices those who wish to discover what was once fleeting but kept alive by one man.
Rex Frederick, the owner of Turn The Page Books and Music Store, has been a loyal contributor to his community. Many of the locals will know him through his unmistakable, artful portraits and photographs he created through his business Frederick’s Photography.
When asked about his career as a photographer Frederick states,
“I actually bought my first “real camera” with my high school graduation money, I did not go to college, I just went straight to work. While working, I did photography as a hobby, with hopes of it becoming a full time career.”
In 1987 that dream became a reality. Throughout his nearly 30 year career, Fredrick has photographed over 11,000 seniors.
“My favorite part of being a photographer was shooting high school seniors. Through out all this time I have watched a lot of those seniors grow up.” Frederick continues, “I must really be getting old because another 10 years have pasted with owning Turn The Page and now I am experiencing the same thing with my customers.”
Selling Frederick’s photography in 2015 granted him a moment to consider retirement. While most would relish in the freedom of a day full of sitting in the lazy boy and seeing where the day takes them, Frederick attempted but needless to say it didn’t work out.
“I realized quite quickly that I like having a plan for my day and having a purpose for myself. So I decided to start this business.”
That is exactly what he did, with a quick turn around, Turn The Page opened in February 2016. Quickly learning the ups and downs of what books sell and what does not, Frederick has established a reputation as the place to go for your next read.

“We offer a large variety of books from locals who come and bring their books here, but I also have a fantastic book seller that I have connected with that really has helped.”
There is no doubt that with a fast paced, heavy technological world, we have found ourselves craving something slow and tangible. Thus the small business boom, where businesses offer an intentional experience that we have been missing. It has come in forms of coffee shops with cinematic esthetics, yielding to an atmosphere for “no rush”, long conversations, farmers markets where a customer gets to know their farmer who is growing their food, and products that are vintage or retro call backs. All businesses to which have mastered the art of branded, grass-root experience for a disconnected world.
Frederick has created an institution with Turn The Page for not following a trend but instilling a passion, offering a vast variety of genres and records.
"I love music. I have it going all day here in the store and when I am at home. Offering records and music was something I knew I wanted to do when I opened the shop. Now I get to watch someone young pick up their first record and what's cool about it all is that it’s music I grew up with."
Regulars can be found flipping through records to add to their collection, swapping music history and their love for vinyl. Turn The Page offers everything from Classic Rock to Taylor Swift.
“There is something for everyone.”
The truth of the matter is, while there is something for everyone, its not just the books one could find or the moment of finding the record that has been on a wish list for a while. What make the experience of a small town business wildly special is the people who run them. Frederick has an effortless way of creating a thriving sense of belonging when you enter the store. His welcoming smile and genuine conversation is what truly radiates through and through Turn The Page Books and Music Store.
